Jewish War Veterans Post 735 donates to VA Hospital

Holbrook Sun - 2/11/2017

Jewish War Veterans of the United States Sharon Post 735 recently presented a check in the amount of $1,600 to Richard Leeman, assistant chief of Voluntary Service and Lana Otis, Voluntary Services program manager at the Brockton Campus of the Veterans Administration Boston Healthcare System.

The post collected these funds during their Veterans Day solicitation at Shaws Supermarket in Sharon which took place from Nov. 9-11 of last year. These funds will be used for the benefit of hospitalized veterans for their personal needs while undergoing treatment and extended care within the VA facility. Among the items provided are specialized telephones for the used of paralyzed patients so that they may more easily maintain contact with their families.

Since 2009, the post has raised and contributed more than $23,000 to this organization.

In addition, Sharon Post 735 has received the Jewish War Veterans Department of Massachusetts Community Service Award for its continued support of hospitalized veterans for 2014 and 2015. The post also regularly sponsors deserving seniors from Sharon High School and Stoughton High School at the annual Massachusetts Classmates Today Neighbors Tomorrow scholarship breakfast program.

The Jewish War Veterans is the oldest veterans' organization in the United States. It was formed in 1896 to support the veterans returning from battle with grave wounds, both physical and mental.

The Jewish War Veterans Post 735 is a Sharon Massachusetts JWV Post dedicated to carrying on the traditions of supporting veterans in need and fighting intolerance.
