Veterans Council seeking World War II?veterans

Town Times - 12/22/2016

WATERTOWN - The Watertown-Oakville Veterans' Council is requesting the assistance of the public.

The Council is feverishly working to verify 1258 names of the town's Greatest Generation who served our country during World War II.

They are using the Watertown Town Hall kiosk to archive those who served. If a person or their loved one served during World War II and lived in Watertown or Oakville when they enlisted, the veterans need their help to verify this. Special care must be taken by those submitting information by triple checking the spelling of the Veterans' first, middle and last names.

All candidates must have lived in Oakville or Watertown when they enlisted during World War II.

Applications are available at the Watertown Town Hall, Parks and Recreation Department and all Veterans' Posts.

Submission of names for the Watertown Connecticut World War II monument must be postmarked no later than Saturday, December 31, 2016. The World War II name plaques will be mounted on the monument and presented to the public at the Memorial Day Ceremony, after the parade May 29, 2017.

Financial contributions may be made directly to the Watertown WWII Monument, c/o The Thomaston Savings Bank, 565 Main Street, Watertown 06795.
